E-commerce Accounts
An eCommerce Account is a dedicated cryptocurrency wallet within Orbital designed for processing customer payments. When customers pay you in crypto or when you need to pay customers out, those transactions flow through your eCommerce Account.
You might also see this referred to as a PMID (Payment Merchant ID) in some parts of the platform—they're the same thing.
What eCommerce Accounts Are For
eCommerce Accounts handle the crypto side of your payment operations. They're built specifically for transacting with end-users.
- Processing pay-ins. When customers pay you in cryptocurrency, those funds arrive in your eCommerce Account. This is the entry point for all incoming crypto payments from end-users.
- Processing pay-outs. When you need to pay customers—refunds, withdrawals, rewards—those outbound crypto payments are sent from your eCommerce Account.
- Holding operational crypto balances. Keep working balances in your eCommerce Account to ensure you have funds available for pay-outs when needed.
Supported Currencies
eCommerce Accounts operate exclusively with cryptocurrencies. All direct transactions with end-users are conducted in crypto only.
- Primary currency: USDT and other supported stablecoins
- Important: eCommerce Accounts don't hold fiat currencies. If you need to convert between crypto and fiat, you'll use Orbital's FX services or work with your corporate account.
How eCommerce Accounts Work with Corporate Accounts
Your eCommerce Account doesn't exist in isolation—it connects to your Treasury Solutions (TS) corporate account for fund management.
Internal transfers You can move funds between your eCommerce Account and your corporate account, as long as both accounts hold the same currency. Transfers work in both directions:
- Corporate account → eCommerce Account (to fund pay-outs)
- eCommerce Account → Corporate account (to move received funds)
Recommended funding flow When you need to add funds to your eCommerce Account, the recommended approach is:
- Send funds to your Treasury Solutions account first
- Perform an internal transfer from the TS account to your eCommerce Account
This keeps your fund flows organized and gives you better visibility into your operational balances.
Settlement
Settlements for eCommerce Account activity typically occur between your external wallets and other accounts held with Orbital group entities. The specific settlement process depends on your account configuration and agreement terms.
FX Services
While eCommerce Accounts only hold crypto, you can use Orbital's FX services to convert between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies. This is useful when:
- You receive crypto payments but want to settle in fiat
- You need to convert between different crypto assets
- You're managing currency exposure across your accounts
